Africa's Commodity Leap: From Raw Loss to Value Power

Abstract

Analyses how much value Africa loses by exporting raw commodities, focusing on cocoa, copper and crude oil. Using data from AFREC, Publish What You Pay, the Institute for Security Studies, UNCTAD and others, it shows how little is processed locally and outlines how investment in processing, the AfCFTA and supportive fiscal and regulatory policy could add value and diversify economies.
