Healthtech & Pharma: Africa's Health Sovereignty

Abstract

Assesses Africa's path to health sovereignty, given that the continent imports most of its medicines and holds about 3% of global pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity. Using Africa CDC, Gavi, WHO and other data, it measures the growth of vaccine and drug manufacturing, maps the health-tech startup ecosystem, reviews universal health coverage indicators, and looks at the automation risks and reskilling needs that AI brings for health workers.
