Urban Futures Unlocked: Financing Africa's Cities

Abstract

Examines Africa's rapid urbanisation and how to finance it. The paper measures housing and infrastructure gaps, reviews smart-city pilots such as Cape Town, Lagos and Kigali, and assesses financing models including public-private partnerships, blended finance, sovereign wealth funds and pension funds. It also considers how automation could change urban services and construction, and which workforce skills will be needed.
